Why Africa?
With its growing energy needs and abundant resources, Africa has the potential to lead in sustainable bioenergy. Accelerating bioenergy is key to strengthening Africa’s energy economy, ensuring universal access to clean energy and increasing the provision of sustainable energy services.
The 2025 GBEP Youth Award will recognize young innovators from Africa and highlight ideas that drive real change for communities and the planet. The award will be presented at the 12th GBEP Bioenergy Week in Kampala, Uganda, which will bring together global experts, policymakers and industry leaders.
Who can apply?
This year’s award is exclusively open to students and researchers in African universities. If you are studying at an African university, whether undergraduate, master’s or PhD and focusing on bioenergy solutions, this award is for you!
What are we looking for?
We want to hear your ideas! Submit your original research papers on:
- innovative bioenergy technologies
- sustainable bioenergy business models and policies
- best practices in bioenergy systems
- bioenergy’s role in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs)
- bioenergy solutions for food security, rural development and climate resilience
Anything related to sustainable bioenergy is welcome!
