Scaling access to clean cooking solutions in Zambia

The Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) and EDFI Management Company, through the Electrification Financing Initiative (ElectriFI), have announced a €4 million investment in Emerging Cooking Solutions (Supamoto), a valued member of the World Bioenergy Association. This funding will support the expansion of clean cooking solutions in Zambia, improving access to sustainable energy for thousands of households.

Supamoto's innovative approach utilizes biomass pellets and fuel-efficient, IoT-enabled cookstoves, reducing greenhouse gas emissions while repurposing local waste materials. The investment will enable increased pellet production in Ndola, enhance logistics and distribution, and provide 14,800 new cookstoves—positively impacting up to 74,000 individuals.

This initiative highlights the crucial role of bioenergy in advancing clean cooking and energy access, reinforcing the importance of sustainable solutions in addressing environmental and social challenges.
