World Bioenergy Association Releases Annual Report 2023

The World Bioenergy Association (WBA) has released its Annual Report 2023, highlighting a year of significant achievements amidst global challenges, including geopolitical tensions and the ongoing impact of climate change. With record-high global temperatures reaching 1.2°C above pre-industrial levels, WBA’s advocacy for bioenergy as a key solution for climate goals beyond 2030 took on greater urgency.

Key Highlights from 2023:

Despite these global challenges, WBA continued to expand its role in the renewable energy sector, particularly through the release of the Global Bioenergy Statistics 2023 report, which underscored bioenergy’s indispensable contributions to heat, electricity, and transport fuels.

WBA organized seven successful webinars, with over 2,500 participants, covering diverse topics such as biomass development, green cooking, and bioenergy’s role in meeting energy security goals. The General Assembly 2023 in Beijing, China, held alongside the International Conference on Biomass and Heating, provided a platform for crucial discussions on bioenergy’s future.

The year also saw WBA's participation in global events like GBEP Bioenergy Week in Thailand and COP28 in Dubai, where WBA had a notable presence with a three-day exhibition, a press conference, and several side events.

In addition, WBA launched Propellets.Africa, a platform focused on pellet production in Africa and maintained its focus on advancing biomass cooking technologies through its Advanced Biomass Cooking working group.

Throughout the year, WBA also strengthened its collaborations with global organizations like IRENA, REN21, and the GBEP, enhancing its influence in the renewable energy sector.

WBA’s progress in 2023 was made possible by the continued support of our members, whose contributions drive our global efforts. Together, we look forward to advancing bioenergy and achieving even greater impact.
