ONYM reaches Major Milestone with Technology Showcase Plant in Montreal

Article by Mustapha Ouyed, Executive Vice-President at ONYM Group

ONYM is thrilled to announce a significant milestone with the launch of production at our cutting-edge technology showcase plant in Montreal.

This achievement was made possible thanks to the financial support from the governments of Quebec and Canada, the Circular Economy Fund, Fondaction, Desjardins, BDC, and EDC. We have successfully completed the first production tests, which have confirmed the efficiency of ONYM's technology in simultaneously producing dry pyrolysis oil, biochar, wood vinegar, and renewable gases. These tests validate the enhanced value extracted from woody biomass residues, bringing biogenic products to the market that are pivotal in supporting the decarbonization of the economy.

The initial tests utilized woody residues from pruning and trimming operations across Montreal, showcasing the remarkable flexibility of ONYM's technology with respect to available resources. Our team is now focused on gradually ramping up the production rate to reach its full potential of nearly 30 tons per day. Process adjustments will be made on a case-by-case basis to meet the specific needs of our clients concerning the physicochemical properties and quality of the various products.

The technology showcase plant will also serve as a platform for testing other residual biomass sources, including agricultural residues and other biomass residues, as well as exploring secondary treatment or blending options for finished products to create higher value-added products.

This showcase plant and the learnings gained from it will pave the way for the development and realization of future scale-up plants with a nominal production capacity of around 240 tons per day.

We invite all interested parties to contact us for opportunities to test our products or develop partnership projects. ONYM is committed to driving innovation and sustainability in the bioenergy sector. Let's collaborate to create a greener future!
