India is a critical player in the global energy transition as the most populated country and fifth largest economy in the world. The country has ambitious climate and energy policies and has made rapid progress in development and deployment of renewable energy solutions. Bioenergy already is an important contributor to the progress with tremendous additional opportunities, underpinned by abundant sustainable supply from waste and agro-residues in particular, high latent demand, and strong policy ambitions. India has potential to become a global leader in innovative biomass applications. At the same time, significant challenges exist in terms of logistics, technologies, finance, and regulations – with opportunities to learn from global experiences on what has and has not worked in practice.
To shed light on important challenges and opportunities within this field and enable knowledge sharing among the major Indian and global practitioners, the World Bioenergy Association (WBA) is pleased to announce the upcoming Bioenergy India webinar series.
The 1st webinar will tackle the opportunity of co-firing biomass in thermal power plants to reduce coal use in the power sector. The latest technology developments in densification of agro biomass will be shared in the 2nd webinar. Finally, the 3rd webinar will shed light on optimizing the aggregation of biomass supply and improving supply chain efficiency to meet the increasing bioenergy demand in India.
