The World Bioenergy Association convened dinner roundtable discussions in India in early February. The objective of the roundtables were to gather leading Indian stakeholders to discuss the challlenges and opportunities for bioenergy development in the country.

Industry roundtable (Goa. 07 February)

At the Radisson Blu Resort Hotel in Goa on 07th February, leading industrial actors convened to share the experiences in the bioenergy sector in India. Participants included Biofuel Circle, Biofuel Junction, BAIF Research Foundation, Camberwell Energy, Ecosense Appliances, Verbio, Indian Oil, Lanza Tech, Netherlands Innovation Network, and SHV Energy.

Policy, industry and Finance roundtable (Delhi. 09 February)

The 2nd roundtable was organized at the Le Meridien Hotel in Delhi on 09 February. The participants included representatives from Camberwell Energy, BioShakti Pvt. Ltd., Swiss Agency for Development, SAMARTH Mission, UN Environment Program, GIZ India, Biotrend Energy, SSS NIBE, Sunsource Energy, ReEnergy Dynamics and August Energy.

At both the roundtables, all the stakeholders agreed that the potential for bioenergy sector is enormous. Abundant resources, political will, and demand for sustainable and renewable solutions are key drivers for the sector. However, the sector suffers from lack of awareness, coordination among diverse range of stakeholders, price competition with fossil fuels, densification technologies and most importantly, the logistics of supply chains of feedstock.

The WBA expressed our significant interest in engaging further with the stakeholders and that the roundtables are a first step in a series of activities planned to exchange knowledge and technologies for the development and deployment of sustainable and renewable bioenergy solutions in India.

WBA expresses our sincere gratitude to all the relevant participants. A detailed report on the Indian mission trip will be available to members in due course.
