On Friday, 1 November 2019, the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) accepted the proposal from the Government of Chile to hold the 2019 UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid. COP25 will take place from 2 to 13 December 2019 at IFEMA - Feria de Madrid (https://www.ifema.es/en), Avda. del Partenón, 5 28042 Madrid, Spain. The conference will take place under the Presidency of the Government of Chile and will be held with logistical support from the Government of Spain. The President-designate for the conference is Ms. Carolina Schmidt, Minister of Environment of Chile.

COP25 is being dubbed the “COP of action” and will build on the successful outcome of the UN Climate Change Conference COP24 in Poland last year, which resulted in the Katowice climate package. World Bioenergy Association is an observer NGO to the UNFCCC. Following is a preliminary list of WBA activities during COP25. Details will be updated shortly.

09 - 10 December 2019 (Monday)

08.00 - 17.00: WBA Exhibit Stand: World Bioenergy Association will showcase the sustainable utilization of biomass (forestry, agriculture, waste) to produce bioenergy (biopower, bioheat and biofuels) on a global level and its role in the implementation of the Paris Agreement with updated data, technology and policy developments.

10 December 2019 (Tuesday)

10.30 - 12.30: EU Energy Day: Session on 100% Renewable Energy (Invited as a speaker)

13.15 - 14.45: REN Alliance Side Event: There is an urgency for all countries to develop more ambitious commitments in order to achieve the Paris goals. Renewables – solar, wind, biomass, hydro & geothermal – working together can strengthen national commitments to achieve a just and equitable transformation to a renewable energy future. Speakers will be representatives of the leading international renewable energy associations and experts working at different geographical levels in renewable energy deployment. Following the presentations, the panelists will discuss how to replicate and scale up these best practice cases.

11 December 2019 (Wednesday)
