CanBio Report: Addressing barriers for Bioenergy

Regulatory hurdles have restricted the deployment of bioenergy technologies in Canada, for decades.

Little progress has been made in addressing these known obstacles. The need to address our regulatory barriers has been made much more urgent by the recent escalation in energy prices that preceded the current recession and the continued expectation of a future with rising costs and growing pressure to reduce carbon emissions.  Bioenergy in the form of woodchips, pellets and straw are all suitable renewable energy alternatives that are readily available in many regions of Canada at reasonable costs.
