The test flight was the fifth in the past two years to feature a biofuel blend of jet fuel, the Greenwire news service reports.
One of the engines on the 747 used for the flight was powered by a mix of 50 percent camelina-derived biofuel developed by Honeywell International subsidiary UOP and 50 percent traditional kerosene.
"This is technically feasible. We have demonstrated that it is possible," KLM president and CEO Peter Hartman said in a statement following the flight.
"Government, industry and society at large must now join forces to ensure that we quickly gain access to a continuous supply of biofuel."
